CO.[4A. S2] The Digital Urban Economy. Digital Platforms, Labour and the City, [MARRONE Marco, University of Salento, Italie]
4A | Cours d'ouverture

The goal of the course would be that of investigating the rise of digital platforms and the impact they have on both labor and the city. This by employing an interdisciplinary approach that uses literatures from sociology, labor studies, urban studies, geography, other than science and technology studies. This approach will allow students to look ‘at the shadows of theories’, exploring the multidisciplinary debate about the impact of platform capitalism on workers and on the main context in which it operates: the city. Students will then be able to focus how digital technologies are reshaping labor processes, global economy and social infrastructures, focusing those social, economic and political transformations that are making emerge the city as a central ground for global capital accumulation. Students will also be provided the fundamental notions to look at the city as a key battleground where labor and social movements are challenging the expansion of platform capitalism, and where new forms of local government are experimented.
